Bulging Disc
A bulging disc occurs when the outer wall of a spinal disc weakens and pushes outward — often the first step on the road to a full herniation. It can irritate nearby nerves and create back, neck, or radiating limb pain.
What it is
A bulging disc occurs when the outer wall of a spinal disc weakens and pushes outward — often the first step on the road to a full herniation. It can irritate nearby nerves and create back, neck, or radiating limb pain.
Common symptoms
- Aching or sharp back/neck pain
- Pain that flares with sitting, bending, or lifting
- Numbness, tingling, or weakness in an arm or leg
- Stiffness when getting out of a chair or bed
- Pain that comes and goes — but never fully resolves
What's actually causing it
Bulging discs are usually caused by years of postural strain, poor lifting mechanics, weak supporting musculature, and disc dehydration with age. They rarely heal on their own when underlying mechanics aren't corrected.
What happens if you ignore it
Untreated, a bulging disc often progresses to a full herniation, chronic nerve compression, and eventual surgical recommendations. Catching it at the bulging stage gives you a dramatically wider treatment window with non-surgical options.
What recovery looks like
Most bulging-disc patients respond well to a combined program of spinal decompression, chiropractic care, cold laser, and targeted rehab.
