Herniated & Bulging Disc
A herniated or bulging disc occurs when the soft cushion between two spinal vertebrae pushes outward, often pressing on nearby nerves and triggering back pain, leg pain, or numbness.
What it is
A herniated or bulging disc occurs when the soft cushion between two spinal vertebrae pushes outward, often pressing on nearby nerves and triggering back pain, leg pain, or numbness.
Common symptoms
- Localized back or neck pain
- Pain that radiates into the arm, leg, or foot
- Numbness, tingling, or weakness in a limb
- Pain triggered by coughing, sneezing, or bending
- Difficulty standing up straight after sitting
What's actually causing it
Discs herniate from a mix of long-term wear, poor posture, repetitive strain, weak supporting musculature, and acute injury. The disc itself rarely heals when underlying mechanics are not corrected.
What happens if you ignore it
Untreated disc problems often progress. The inflamed nerve continues to be compressed, leading to permanent loss of sensation or muscle strength in the affected limb. Many patients develop chronic muscle guarding, spinal degeneration, and — eventually — surgery they could have avoided. The window for non-surgical recovery narrows the longer the issue is ignored.
What recovery looks like
Most disc patients respond well to a combined program of laser decompression, chiropractic care, and targeted rehab — often avoiding injections or surgery entirely.
